There’s been a lot going on lately, and I’ve been staying busy!
Last week I had a great meeting with the Ottawa County Democrats. They are a fantastic group and are doing important work in our community. It was energizing to connect with so many people who care deeply about Michigan’s future.
On Saturday, I also had the chance to attend the Holland St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It was wonderful to see so many people out celebrating and enjoying the day together. Had an amazing Reuben sandwich at Hops at 84 East. Events like that really remind me how strong and connected our community is.
Looking ahead, I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s meeting about the Silver Maple Solar Farm proposal. If you’re interested in learning more, I encourage you to come out, say hello, and hear directly from those involved. I am excited for this privilege. The meeting will take place on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Evergreen Ministries, located at 4512 48th Ave. Additional meetings will be held on Wednesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Zeeland Township Hall, 6582 Byron Rd.
I want to make myself available to the public on a regular basis so I can hear directly from the community. I am open to suggestions for places where regular meet ups or open conversations would work well.

I recently spent some time driving around the farmland near the Ottawa Executive Airport, stopping to introduce myself and talk with the folks who live in the area. Everyone I met was incredibly friendly and welcoming. It’s always a good reminder of how strong and connected our communities are.
In many of those conversations, the proposed Silver Maple Solar project came up. People had a lot to say. Some had concerns, some were frustrated, and many had questions about how it could affect farmland and the character of the area. What was clear is that people care deeply about their land and their community.
There will be a meeting about the project on March 17 at Evergreen Ministries, located at 4512 48th Ave, Hudsonville, and I plan to attend. It’s always important that people have a chance to hear information, ask questions, and share their perspectives. I’m looking forward to continuing the conversation and ensuring our community remains engaged.

I finalized the design for our new business cards a small but important step in building meaningful connections across our community. These cards will help introduce the campaign, start conversations, and ensure residents of District 85 know how to reach me and stay involved.
I also added a photo of Michigan House District 85 to the website. If you live in Jenison, Hudsonville, or Zeeland you’re in our district! I encourage you to reach out with any concerns, ideas, or issues you’d like to discuss. Or simply say hello I’d love to connect.
I’m also looking forward to attending the meeting about the Silver Maple Solar Project, which is planned to be held at Evergreen Ministries on March 17th at 6:00 PM. Community conversations like this are important, and I’m eager to listen and learn more.
There’s still more work ahead, expanding outreach, strengthening connections, and continuing to build momentum. The campaign is just getting started. I am excited!

Still figuring out how to build this site, but I’m really starting to enjoy the process. Today I completely redid the policy page. It’s updated and reflects where we’re headed, and I’m proud of how it’s shaping up.
Over the weekend, I had an absolute blast watching Team USA bring home gold in both men’s and women’s hockey at the Olympic Games. What an incredible feeling. And one moment in particular stood out. In the celebration after the men’s gold medal game, players brought out Johnny Gaudreau’s kids, Noa and Johnny Jr., onto the ice and included them in the team celebration as part of a heartfelt tribute to their dad. That was something special to see and a reminder of the deeper stories behind the sport.
It’s moments like that, full of heart, community, and meaning, that remind me what’s possible when people come together and give everything they’ve got.

Today has been busy but exciting. Campaigning is going really well and I’ve been working on the website, learning how to make it something people will enjoy. It’s a lot of trial and error but also really satisfying to see it start coming together.
Later, I’m heading to a community meeting at February Community & Connection at The Derby Tavern in Hudsonville, Michigan. If you’re in the area, come on out. I’d love to see you there.
It’s one of those days that reminds me why I do this work, connecting with neighbors and building something that matters.
